LNEG’s HPC Cluster is a High-Performance Computing system with 4 TFLOPS of peak computing power. It consists of 96 computation nodes (Intel Xeon E5-2683 v4 2.1GHz) interconnected by a 56 Gb/s Infiniband communication infrastructure for MPI computation, with a total of 768 GB of RAM and 32 TB for data storage.
Currently this infrastructure is mainly devoted to Concentrated Solar Power simulations, namely Thermal Energy Storage problems, however depending on the available or to be available application packages it can be used for simulation studies of other technologies.
Several numerical codes and tools are already available, being the main services available:
Computer fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation with Ansys Fluent or OpenFOAM;
Simulation of transient systems for both CSP plants and components with TRNSYS, including TESS libraries;
Systems’ techno-economic simulation with the System Advisory Model from NREL;
Computing time for user developed software.
