Updated: Dec 16, 2024

The EERA Joint Programme Energy Storage workshop and the the StoRIES Projects 7th meeting took place in Brussels, from 19 to 20 November 2024.

On 19 November, participants had the opportunity to participate in the 3rd Sustainable Hybrid Energy Storage, where they worked collaboratively to design sustainable business models tailored to specific hybrid energy storage use cases using the innovative Sustainability Business Canvas Template. The groups presented their results to the rest of the attendees, received feedback, and sparked exciting discussions on incorporating sustainability into hybrid energy storage business development.

On 20 November, StoRIES partners met at the EERA office for the 7th StoRIES Project Meeting. Stefano Passerini (project coordinator, KIT) welcomed attendees both online and in person, followed by Myriam Gil Barjadí (deputy project coordinator, KIT), who provided a brief overview of the project. Olga Suminska-Ebersoldt analysed the results of the previous TNA calls launched by StoRIES and outlined projections for the next one, and was followed by Spyridon Pantelis (EERA), who presented an overview of the current state of the research and industrial hybrid energy storage ecosystem.

Later, Marco Ferraro (CNR) and Manuel Baumann (KIT) highlighted the sustainable hybrid energy storage workshop series, while Koroush Malek (FZJ) offered technical insights with the value analysis of grid-scale energy storage technologies.

Pinar Arpaçay (KIT) introduced the StoRIES Summer School for young researchers and the education section was complemented by Hüseyin Ersoy (KIT) and his presentation of the early-stage researcher network. Pinar Arpaçay also detailed the mentoring programme and the online courses for the workforce, while Linda Barelli outlined the training programme for master’s students.

The next steps and upcoming activities of the StoRIES project were presented by Roberto Scipioni (SINTEF), who focused on the Roadmap/SRIA/Book regarding HES uses for the ET, and Dumitrita Nistorica (EASE), who provided an overview of the innovation and exploitation plan. Stefano Passeri concluded the meeting with a summary and closing remarks.

Following the StoRIES meeting, the 25th EERA JP Energy Storage Steering Committee Meeting was held. During this session, the activity report was presented by the different partners involved, and the budget for 2025 was defined and approved.
